I think that’s from the sayings of the Buddha. Although it might be Zhuang Zhou. I couldn’t find it online and my library is in boxes. This is about my general level of intellectual rigor.
Some of my work:
“Georgia Buddha” – Received the Passage Prize First Place for Fiction, and featured in the collection from Passage Press. The first printing has sold out, but there should be a paperback or PDF edition available later in the year.
“Sky Burial” – It’s shorter than Georgia Buddha, touches on similar themes: https://vnebert.com/2022/03/19/sky-burial/
“Medea Gothic” – A much longer piece, which is either a very long short story or a short novella. I wanted to write a Jim Thompson story and I wanted to write a version of the Medea story set in the Deep South after the Second World War, and the two impulses met and became this. https://vnebert.com/2022/08/10/medea-gothic/
“Shark Fin Soup” – Published in Apocalypse Confidential‘s SUMMER OF THE SHARK Special. This one is, perhaps unsurprisingly, shark-themed. https://t.co/xPCnyrwtsA
“Waiting on Redemption” – Another short piece. It’s my version of a horror story. https://vnebert.com/2022/05/11/waiting-on-redemption/
Boll Weevil – In progress novel, crime story set in the South after World War II and some other places as well. First Draft Excerpt Here: https://vnebert.com/2022/04/20/boll-weevil-draft-excerpt-i/
Bell Weevil – Bodhidharma Died in California. It’s the title of a short story which didn’t work but does as the novel’s second strand, taking place in California as the Cold War has ended early with the other team winning.
